Amin Alam
R&D Engineer
Vienna
At Syntropic, he combines his background in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering with over six years of expertise in software engineering, AI, hardware design, and cyber security to lead the company’s software/hardware/data systems development.
“I have always been drawn to building things, whether software or hardware, and that’s what fuels my passion for computers and engineering. When I encounter a system, I instinctively want to understand the processes behind it—take it apart and figure out what makes it work.”
Amin Alam grew up in Iran, amid a fervent political and economic climate, with a computer in his hands for as long as he can remember. Although he was fascinated with the computers since he was a kid, he decided to pursue his studies both in electrical engineering and computer science. “As an electrical engineer, I learned to see everything as a system. This approach gave me the tools to break down problems into smaller, manageable parts and arrive at solutions more quickly. Applying this engineering mindset to computer science allows me to solve complex problems that others might overlook.”
Amin earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, with honors for his extensive extracurricular involvement. During his studies, he researched the effects of 40Hz flickering light on both healthy individuals and Alzheimer’s patients, using EEG and signal processing techniques, and developed new techniques for conversion of EEG data to fMRI using deep learning. He then pursue a summer internship in Siegert’s lab at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria. Following that, he continued advancing his work in Deep Learning, Signal Processing, Systems Neuroscience, Software Engineering, and Hardware Prototyping within Syntropic Medical.
“In Iran, I had already worked with various tech startups during my studies. I’m open to change when necessary, and I need to be surrounded by people who recognize when something isn’t working and are willing to pivot and adapt quickly.”
This adaptability was precisely the mindset he found at Syntropic. Amin’s extensive experience as a software engineer and data scientist with several successful Iranian startups has given him a deep understanding of the engineering challenges startups face when developing new solutions, allowing him to work at a rapid pace. Speed, he believes, is essential for building a competitive business.
What’s the unique advantage you bring to the Syntropic team?
“Resilience and working hard, without a doubt. I’ve faced new challenges every day throughout my life, which has profoundly shaped my character. When something doesn’t work, I keep pushing until it does, or I find another way to make it work”
